Only Sinopharm jab at hand for first dose

The health authorities have Sinopharm covid vaccine only in hand to inoculate the people across the country.
Meanwhile, stipulated vaccination centers, for foreign bound workers, like Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital has a stock of AstraZeneca and Moderna jabs as many countries have not recognised Sinopharm vaccine produced in China yet.
In this situation, people who want to take other jabs than Sinopharm have no chance.
“There are no other options to inoculate as no vaccine other than Sinopharm is in our hand. The stock of other vaccines are used for second shots,” Dr. Robed Amin, spokesperson of the Directorate General of Health Services told The New Nation on Tuesday.
He said, most of the vaccines have been delivered to vaccination centers across the country.The other vaccines will be administered when those will available here, he added.
Sources from the health authorities said about three crore doses of several covid vaccines have arrived in the country so far.
From those, about 1.5 crore shots of the vaccines have been inoculated as first dose and about 54 lakh doses of those were administered for second shots.
The rest of one crore doses of the vaccines have remained in stock, officials said.
They said, about 1.2 crores of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines have been brought from India and more 245,200 of the jab came from Japan under Covax alliances.
The officials said that China has gifted about 11 lakh shots of Sinopharm jab.
Additional 70 lakh doses of the jab have arrived as part of the government’s purchasing shots from China.
Besides, about 34,61,801 doses of the jabs have come as part of Covax.
A total of 1,15,61,801 doses of Sinopharm jab were added to our stock so far.
Besides, about 50.5 lakhs doses Moderna and 100,620 doses of Pfizer jab also added to stock so far.
In Mugda Medical College Hospital vaccination center, a jab seeker was urging the authority to give him vaccines like Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca as he has a chance to go abroad for a trip.
The authority replied him that there was no option.
When contacted, Dr. Asim Kumar Nath, Director of Mugda Medical College Hospital, told The New Nation on Tuesday, “We have only Sinopharm jab in our hand.”
He said, it is an effective jab none should fear it.
The data of the DGHS on Tuesday showed that 892 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines have been administered for first dose while about 20573 doses of second doses were inoculated.
Besides, 67 shots of Pfizer as first dose and 125 for second dose, 46 doses of Moderna as first dose and 47296 for second dose and 286205 doses of Sinopharm for first shots and 112748 as second doses were inoculated on the day.
