Trucks loaded with onions stranded inside India have started entering Bangladesh through Hili land port in Dinajpur since Saturday.
A total of 11 trucks carrying Indian onions entered Bangladesh through Hili land port from 3pm to 4:30pm, said Sohorab Hossain, public relations officer of Hili land port.
“We will unload the onions and send those to different places of the country soon, as per the order of the government,” he added.
Around 250 pre-contracted trucks loaded with onions got stuck in India, opposite Hili land port, after India ordered a halt on onion exports on September 14, said Harun-Ur-Rashid, president of Hili Export Import Association.
The country’s onion market became unstable after the Indian government imposed the ban on onion export on September 14.
