The prices of essential commodities including local onion, sugar, pulses, especially masur daal and broiler chicken have increased remarkably in the Sylhet city’s kitchen markets on Saturday, traders said.
While visiting the city’s Bandarbazar and City kitchen markets on Monday , the correspondent found that local onion was selling at Tk 25-30 per kg while it was selling at Tk 20-25 a kg a week ago. Imported onion was selling at Tk 25 per kg in the markets.
Imported sugar was selling at Tk 58 per kg on Saturday against Tk 52 a kg on Wednesday last, while local sugar was selling at Tk 52 per kg in different markets in the city on Saturday against Tk 48 a kg on Wednesday.
In the markets, local masur daal was selling at Tk 145 per kg while imported pulse was selling at Tk 80 per kg on Saturday. Broiler chicken was selling at Tk 160 a kg on Saturday but it was selling at Tk 150 per kg last week.
Bitter gourd was selling at Tk 40 per kg, ladies finger at Tk 30-40 per kg, parble at Tk 40 per kg, barbati at Tk 40 per kg, potato at Tk 20 per kg in the markets on Saturday. Pui saak was selling at Tk 20 per kg.
Prices of imported garlic declined marginally in the city’s markets on Saturday. Per kg of foreign garlic was selling at Tk 180 while local garlic was selling at Tk 80 a kg on Saturday.
Ginger was selling at Tk 80 a kg, green chili at Tk 50 a kg on Saturday.
Local chicken was selling at Tk 250-450 per piece and broiler chicken was selling at Tk 160 per kg on Saturday.
In the city’s retail markets, it was found that a big-size hilsha was selling at Tk 1200 while the medium-size and small-size hilsha was selling at Tk 600 and Tk 300 respectively. A big-size Pangas fish was selling at Tk 300 per kg while the small-size at Tk 140 per kg, koi (local) at Tk 400 to Tk 600 per kg, ruhi (small) at Tk 180 per kg and big-size ruhi was selling at Tk 280 per kg in the retail markets on Saturday.
The price of dry chili, a substitute of green chili, remained unchanged at Tk 200 per kg in retail markets.
In the city’s different kitchen markets, coarse rice was selling between Tk 34 and Tk 38 a kg while najirshail was retailed at Tk 60-62 per kg, pijam at Tk 38 per kg, kataribhogh at Tk 60 to 65 per kg and Irri at Tk 36 per kg.
Per kg of beef was selling at Tk 400-450 and mutton at Tk 500-600 as per quality in the city’s kitchen markets on Saturday.
