UNB, Cumilla :
A court here on Monday sentenced a man to death for killing a person in 2009.
The convict was identified as Shafiqul Islam, son of Abdul Malek of Laxmipur village in Debidwar upazila.
The court also fined him Tk 10,000.
According to the prosecution, Nasrul Hasan Swapan, son of Abdul Jalil Sarkar of Laxmipur village was hacked to death by the convict near Gumti river bank on October 5, 2009 over refusing to lend money.
Abdul Jalil, father of the victim filed a case against six people on the following day.
Police submitted chargesheet against Shafiqul on November 8, 2009.
After examining records and witnesses Additional District and Session Habibur Rahman handed down the verdict.
