One to die for killing friend

A Chittagong court in a verdict here on Thursday sentenced a youth to death for killing his friend at Jamiatul Flaha Mosque area in the city in 2011.
Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge Shahenoor pronounced the verdict convicting Jahed Mahmud, the then student of International Islamic University, for killing his university friend Kafil Uddin. The court also fined the convict TK 10 thousand in the same verdict, court sources said. The prosecution story, in short, is that Jahed stabbed to death his friend Kafil Uddin for a Laptop and some money at Jamiatul Flaha Mosque area in the city on December 8 in 2011 Later, victim’s father Mohammad Rafique filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station against Jahed.
Police submitted charge-sheet on May 3, 2012.
The court today after examining 11 out of 21 prosecution witnesses passed the judgement convicting Jahed who is in jail now.
Food shops fined for adulteration: A mobile court of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate (NCRPD) on Thursday fined Bismillah Foods Products in city’s Sagorika area for producing adulterated foods by using burnt oil. Assistant Director of NCRPD Chttagong Division Bikash Chandra Das led the mobile court in city’s Sagorika area under Pahartali thana and fined Bismillah foods Tk 60 thousand for producing adulterated food items, said Das.
The NCRPD also fined TK 30 thousand to Dhaka Bakery & Biscuit Factory and fined TK 20 thousand to Dhaka Bakery in city’s Saraipara area for the same offence.
