The brief prosecution story says, Abdullah, 11, a Class V student of Mugarchar Government Primary School and son of expatriate Badal Hossain, was kidnapped by his neighbours on January 29, 2016. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk five lakh from the child’s father and managed Tk two lakh from the family of the victim.
On February 2 last year, police recovered the decomposed body of Abdullah from a plastic made drum in the house of the victim’s paternal uncle Motahar. He gave confessional statement in a court admitting that they strangulated the child after abduction.
Police arrested Motahar’s son Mehedi, Mitu and their mother Nasima Begum in this connection. Motahar, the prime accused in the case, was allegedly killed in a shootout with members of Rapid Action Battalion on February 8, 2016.
Police submitted the charge-sheet of the case to the court against four persons on March 9, 2016. Examining the records and depositions of 20 witnesses, the Judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 pronounced verdict acquitting Nasima as allegation brought against her was not be proved.
