Tasfia killing: One remanded in Ctg

A Chittagong court on Friday placed Mizanur Rahman alias Asif Mizan on a three-day remand over the killing of schoolgirl Tasfia Amin.Metropolitan Magistrate Al Imran Khan passed the order in the afternoon when police produced Asif before the court seeking a seven-day remand, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Nirmalendu Bikash Chawkrabarty.
Earlier on Wednesday, police arrested Asif, a friend of Tasfia’s ‘boyfriend’ Adnan Mirza, from Panchlaish in the city.
On May 2, Patenga police recovered the body of Tasfia Amin, 15, a ninth grader of Sunshine Grammar School, from riverside of the Karnaphuli in Patenga Naval Road area. Adnan was arrested from Jalalabad Housing Society area under Khulshi Police Station in the city on the same day.
Two held with phensidyl: Police in a drive arrested a women drug peddler and one of her associates with 650 bottles of contraband phensidyl from Barisal colony in the port city early Friday.
The arrestees were identified as Parul Begum and her associate Jahura Begum, residents of the colony.
Based on secret information, a police team conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo and recovered the drugs kept in four sacks around 12 am, said Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Police Station.
Parul, wife of Abul Hossain of Brahmanbaria district, is the kingpin of a strong drug peddling racket being operated from the colony, said police.
She operates the illegal drug business in association with at least 40 women and 30 children in all over the port city for long, the OC added. A case was filed accusing 13 people including Parul and jahura Begum.
