One remanded for vandalising Syed Ashraf’s mural

A Kishoreganj Court has granted a three-day remand to a accused Parvez (36) who was arrested in connection with vandalism of a newly-built mural of the late Syed Ashraful Islam, former general secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League and Ex.LGRD, Public Administration Minister.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Abdun Noor on Sunday noon granted him a three-day remand after a hearing. Earlier on July 31, Kishoreganj Model Police Station Inspector Joynal Abedin, the investigating officer in the case, applied for a five-day remand for questioning.

The incident took place on the evening of July 29 when the inaugural nameplate of the newly-built mural of Syed Ashraful Islam and some parts of the mural were vandalized near Syed Nazrul Islam Square (Pararam Chattor) in the town.The incident caused a storm of condemnation and contempt.
