A youth was killed and 10 others severely injured in a clash over the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) elections between two factions of Awami League at Pikel village under Nagarpurupazila in Tangail on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Tota Sheikh (40) son of Akkel Sheikh,President oflocal ward Awami League.
Locals said, “Tota Sheikh and his entourage were attacked by people from the other side of the party over a dispute centering the UP election.Later on,they got involved in clashes with domestic weapons.Due to at least 10 people on both sides were injured.”
“When four of them were admitted to the Daulatpur Thana Health Complex in the neighboring district of Manikganj, the doctors on duty there declared Tota Sheikh dead,” the locals also added.
Sarkar Abdullah Al Mamun,Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nagarpur Police station said,”Police had been dispatched to the spot immediately after receiving information about the clash. Extra police also have been deployed in the area to under control the situation.”
