An Awami League activist was killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between two factions of the ruling party in Lepshia Bazar area of Khaliajuri upazila on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman, 28, a local AL activist.
Locals said, there had been a longstanding dispute between Takwa union AL leaders Kuddus and Khalil over establishing their dominance in the locality.
On Thursday, an altercation took place between their supporters over a trivial matter.
Following the altercation, both groups, equipped with locally made weapons, engaged in a clash around 3:30pm on Friday. A chase and counter-chase took place during the melee that left Habibur Rahman dead on the spot and 15 other activists injured. The injured were rushed to local clinics.
