A local Awami League leader was killed and six people were injured as the rival faction attacked a meeting of the upazila AL in Kaliganj on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Ananda Mohon Ghosh, 50, president of Kola union unit of the ruling party.
Officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station Anwar Hossain said an
extended meeting of the upazila Awami League was in progress at Kaliganj municipality auditorium in the afternoon with former MP Abdul Mannan in the chair.
The supporters of upazila AL general secretary Anwarul Azim Ana attacked the meeting after equipped with sticks, leaving seven people injured.
The attackers also vandalised a jeep and at least 10 motorcycles during the mayhem.
