One killed in clash over land grabbing of BR

One person has been killed in a clash between two groups of illegal occupiers of Bangladesh Railway (BR) lands, who have constructed slams on the lands they have occupied, here in the port city.
The clash occurred over dispute with regard to giving power connections to the illegal slums on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Mohammed Monir Hossain (46). He was one of the syndicate leaders who used to give power connection to the slums illegally. He was the son of one Shamsul Haque and was living at CRB areas illegally for last 40 years.
He was also a follower of the General Secretary of Chittagong City Awami League Alhaj A J M Nasir Uddin unauthenticated sources told .
Police arrested a leader of the other syndicate named Mohammed Shafique, also a follower of the ruling party , in connection with the murder of the Monir. Sources said the two gang led by Monir and Shafique used to lock in clashes at a regular basis over the dispute of giving illegal connection to the slums which have been constructed illegally occupying BR-owned lands at Jhaotola, Pahartoli and CRB areas.
Police have recovered the body of Monir from CRB area at around 2am on Sunday night after the clash was over.
Officer-in-Charge of Kotowali thana Mohammed Jashim Uddin said, “Monir and Shafique used to give illegal connections of power to the illegal slums. However, primarily we have confirmed that Shafique group killed Monir and we have already arrested Shafique in this connection.”
He further said, arrested Shafique confessed his involvement with the murder of Monir. A case was filed in this connection with Kotowali thana.
