One killed, 7 injured in Gulshan AC blast

A person was killed and seven others injured when the compressors of two air-conditioners (AC) exploded at a multi-storey building in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area on Wednesday noon.
The incident took place at 1:50 pm on the ground floor of the house No. 6, Road No. 93, Gulshan 2.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz, an AC technician of the building. But identities of seven injured people could not be known yet.
Fire Service headquarters Duty Officer Nazma Akhter confirmed the matter to the media saying that the explosion occurred on the ground floor of a 14-storey building.
One person was found dead inside the AC control room of that building.
On getting news, two units of Fire Service rushed to the spot. However, no fire was spotted as the firefighters reached the blast scene, she added.
Meanwhile, Engineer Rezaul Haque Reza, an employee of level 14, was the direct witness to the incident. He told the New Nation that actually two separate AC blasts happened together on the level 14 and the other on the ground floor.
After the blast, whole staffs of the building became scare for the panic, he added.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP, Gulshan zone) Deputy Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty told the media “An air condition compressor exploded in the building where the UAE Visa Center is located on the ground floor of the building. That time the AC mechanics were repairing the air-condition equipment at the Visa Center. When it exploded, it maked a loud noise. The front part of the ground floor of the building was smashed to pieces.
At least seven people were injured, six of whom were taken to city’s United Hispital, DC added.
Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) M A Abul Hashem confirmed the news to the New Nation that two separate air condition compressor exploded in the building at a time of the day. We still believe, it was just AC blast. But police are investigating the matter to know the fact behind the incident, OC added.
