One killed, 17 hurt at BCL internal clash at SUST

An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed and 17 others were injured in an intra-party clash of the ruling party’s student wing over establishing supremacy on the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Sumon, student of International University, a private university. Witnesses said the clash ensued between the Uttam-Anjan and Partho-Sabuj groups of BCL around 10:00 am over establishing dominion on the campus, leaving 15 people injured. The two groups exchanged gunshots during the melee that left three BCL activists injured. The injured were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared Sumon dead. Aktar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad police station, confirmed the incident. –UNB, Dhaka.
