AL-BNP clash: One killed, 10 hurt in Bogra

At least one Awami League supporter was hacked to death and 10 others were injured in a clash between the Awami League and the BNP activists while campaigning in favour of their candidates at Jamtola Bazaar in Buriganj union of Shibganj upazila on Monday night at 11.30pm.
The deceased identified as Mahtab Uddin, 46, was an inhabitant of Khaduil village and newly-elected director of Shibganj Upazila Polli Biddyut Samity. His paternal uncle Gafur is a local AL leader and currently UP Chairman candidate of Buriganj UP in Shibganj upazila.
Police quoting the local sources said that the supporters of the AL and the BNP candidates locked into a clash during their election campaign at Jamtola Bazaar. At around 10.30pm, some AL supporters vandalised and set the BNP’s election campaign office on fire.
Hearing it, the BNP supporters swooped on Khaduil village resulting in a bloody clash that left Mahtab seriously injured. He died on the way to the hospital, local sources confirmed.
On information, an additional police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Circle A, Md. Sarfaraz rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Bogra Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
Tense situation prevails. But police say that everything is now under their control.
