One gets life term for drug peddling in Barishal

A Barishal court on Tuesday afternoon sentenced absconding drug peddler Anwarul Islam, son of Aminuddin Mridha from Benapole of Jashore to life term imprisonment and fined Tk 20 thousand or to serve more two years jail.
A K Shahid Ahmed, judge of the tribunal for preventing crimes against public safety, declared this verdict after examining 12 witnesses and ordered to issue warrant against the absconding accused.
Court sources said a team of detective branch of Barishal Metropolitan Police on October 12, 2012 night, gave signal to stop a private car at Amtala Mor area of the city.
The police team chased the car when it ignoring the signal tried to flee away to Nathullabad Bus Stand area.
However driver stopping the car tried to flee away and police searching the car recovered 2750 bottles of phensidyl and arrested Anwar.
A case was lodged in this connection with Kotwali police station on the same day by Sub Inspector Shakhawat Hossain, as complainant.
Sub Inspector Iranul Islam, investigation officer of the case, filed charge sheet against the accused on November 21, 2012, who became absconding after getting bail from the court.
