One gets 10 years jail for keeping arms

The Chittagong court sentenced 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to an accused of arms case on Wednesday. The court also fined Tk 10,000 to the accused. In failure of the payment of the fine, the court sentenced more one year jail to the accused.
The accused was identified as Mohammad Imon. He is the son of one Abul Kalam alias Kalu Mistri of Roysree village under Roy Pur in Lakshmipur district. He is absconding.
The court of 5th Additional Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge Mohammad Nur -e- Alam sentenced 10 years imprisonment to Imon under section 19/A of arms act.
Sources said, police recovered one foreign made rifle and 8 rounds of bullets from the house of Imon at Feri Ghat area at Chandraghona at Kaptai on August 10 in 2003.
Police filed a case and later submitted the charge sheet against Imon. After hearing the testimonies of 9 witnesses, the court announced the verdict after long 13 years and seven months of the case.
