Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shahab Uddin said around one crore of saplings will be planted across the country marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“To cope with climate change impacts, we will plant one crore saplings at 492 upazilas marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said while addressing a workshop in the capital.
The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry arranged the workshop on the Conference of the Parties (COP)-25 at the conference room of the Department of Environment (DoE), a handout said.
Speaking as the chief guest, Shahab Uddin said despite raising voice to realise compensation from the developed countries, the Bangladesh government will continue implementation of programmes with its own fund aiming to address climate change impacts.
He said Bangladesh’s participation in the COP-25 was successful as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was elected as the chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) for 2020-21.
Deputy Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar, among others, addressed the workshop with Environment, Forest and Climate Change secretary Ziaul Hasan in the chair.
