Out of revenge!: One child killed every month at N’ganj

One minor child is a victim of murder every month on an average in the port city of Narayanganj since the killing of Tanvir Mohammad Tawki, son of Rafiur Rabbi, a cultural personality over a year ago.
The reasons behind abduction of children can be attributed to reasons like property disputes and revenge, Syed Nurul Islam, Superintendent of Police (SP) Narayanganj said.
Tawki went missing from his house on March 6 last year and his body was discovered several days after the abduction on the bank of the river Sitalakhya. Cross sections of people including Mayor of Narayanganj Dr. Selina Hyat Ivy staged noisy demonstrations seeking punishment of persons responsible for the killing of Tawki, a brilliant school student, it should be recalled.
Russel, another student of Narayanganj was victim of murder in April last year. The mutilated body of Imon, another school boy was found on March 5. He went missing on January 29 .The bodies of three other school children were recovered in July and another body was found in September last . Two bodies of school children were recovered in last June while
 bodies of three minor children were recovered in February this year, according to media reports and police.
Tawki’s father Rafiur Rabbi talking to the media said as those responsible for the murder of Tawki so far remains unpunished, criminals think they can go escaping punishment committing crimes.
Police Superintendent (SP) of Narayanganj Syed Nurul Islam talking to The New Nation on Sunday said that in most cases of murder of children, relatives of the victims were involved. Those accused in the cases have mostly been arrested, he said adding such arrests have been made on the basis of confessional statements. In most of the cases murderers committed the crimes out of revenge, he said. The reasons behind the murders of the children, he claimed, have been mostly unveiled.
Responding to a question on progress of the Tawki murder case, he said, as it is under investigation of RAB he could not make any comment on it.
