Md Hafizur Rahman, Judge of the Additional District and Session Judge Court-1, Bagerhat, in a judgment delivered on Wednesday, convicted one Al-Amin (38), son of one Fazlul Haq Hawladar of village Matherpar under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district and sentenced him to be hanged till his death and to a fine of Tk.1 (one) lakh on the charge of committing rape on his minor step daughter Maya (O9) who was a student of Class-III of Rayenda Govt. Primary School and killing her brutally. At the time of the delivery of the judgment the accused was present in the court.
The prosecution story, in short, is that the accused married Putul Begum, mother of the deceased and a divorcee woman of the same area in the year 2016. Maya was missing since December 20 afternoon in the same year. Search was made hither and thither. But finding no trace of her the matter was brought to the notice of the police of Sharankhola PS on the same day at night. Police arrested the step father Al-Amin suspecting his involvement into the matter and in the face of interrogation the accused confessed to the police that he had killed the girl after committing rape on her and according his confession, police recovered the dead body form a paddy field of Matherpar area.
In this connection Dulal Hawladar, maternal grand father of the deceased child lodged a case with the local PS against Al-Amin. After investigating into the matter police submitted a charge sheet to the court on April 21 in the year 2017 against the accused.
The learned judge after examining the witnesses and evidences found the accused guilty and awarded him the aforesaid punishment.
