One arrested with 300 Kgs copper wire from Rampal power plant area

Members of Ansar Battalion recovered 300 kilograms (KGs) of stolen copper wire worth about Taka 5.40 lakhs and arrested a member of wire stealing syndicate from Rampal Power Plant area on Wednesday.
Deputy Director and Commander of Ansar Battalion-3 in Khulna told BSS that a syndicate of robbers often steals valuable goods including copper wire from the power plant area.
Acting on secret information, a team of Ansar Battalion of Rampal Camp conducted a raid at a jungle, adjacent to Rampal Power Plant, at around 2am today and arrested a man with a motorcycle. The Ansar Battalion also recovered 300 KGs of copper wire hidden in the bush, he said.
The arrestee was identified as Md Ashraful Howlader, 31, Son of Nur Uddin Howlader of village Adaghat under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district.
He was handed over to Rampal Police Station, said the Ansar commander, adding that he confessed that the syndicate has been stealing valuable goods including copper wire from the plant for long.
The law enforcement agencies have arrested a total of 20 members of the syndicate so far and recovered 1,160 KGs and 26 roles of copper wire, huge pipe and other electric goods, mobile phones worth about Taka 26 lakhs from their possessions during the last four months, he added.
