An old woman named Chandra Banu (90) was killed when a train hit her near Hatikhola Bazar of Gafargaon in Mymensingh. The incident took place at around 11:30 am on Tuesday when the Mymensingh-bound Mahua train left Dhaka towards Mymensingh. The deceased has been identified as Chandra Banu, wife of late Motaleb Miah of Hatikhola village. According to local sources, Chandra Banu came to Hatikhla Bazaar around 11:30 pm borrowing Tk 500 to buy BGF rice at Tk 10 per kg. She died on the spot after being hit by a Mymensingh-bound Mahua train leaving Dhaka inadvertently. Later, the family members of the deceased got the news and took the body home.
The chairman of the local Gafargaon Union Parishad Shamsul Alam Khokon said Chandra Banu’s name was not on the list of beneficiaries at the rate of Tk 10 per kg.
