Old man among four drown in separate incidents in Chandpur

An old man and three other children drowned in ponds in separate incidents in Shahrasti and Hajiganj Upazilas on Thursday noon in the district.
The deceased in Shahrasti Upazila were identified – Abdul Hannan,52, a resident of Digdair village in Suchipara South UP in Shahrastri Upazila and Tahsin, 30 months, son of Parvej Mia of Shimulia village of the same Union.
Suchipara South UP Chairman A Rashid said, Hannan was an epilepsy patient. Despite this, he went to fish with local net in a ditch at noon beside his home. At one stage, due to epilepsy, he fell into the pondwater and remained missing to the surprise e of all!.Then he was recovered from the ditch later and rushed to Shahrasti Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared him dead. In another incident at Shimulia village, while Tahsin’s mother was cooking in the kitchen, Tahsin was playing with others and suddenly he slipped into the pond adjacent to the house and remained missing. After frantic search, his shoes were found floating in the pond and then his paternal uncle Kamal Hossain rescued him and rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared the child dead. Contacted, Shahrasti Thana OC Mohammad Shah Alam confirmed the reports of drowning.
On the other hand, in Hajiganj Upazila, two small children also drowned in separate incidents at noon on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Jilani, 4, son of Md Saiful Islam of Paschim Hatila village and Anika Mirza,3, daughter of Md Amir Mirza of Purbo Hatila village of the Upazila. While playing, they slipped into the ponds and drowned. They were rescued and rushed to Hajiganj Health Complex where the on duty doctors declared them dead one after the other. A pall of gloom has descended upon the areas following their drowning.
