Police cautioned against extortion from cattle-laden trucks

Police Super of Kishoreganj Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) said that Kishoreganj district Police have taken various steps ahead of upcoming Eid-ul-Azha to cope with the ongoing Covid-19 .
Police have strengthened security in 13 Upazilas, 8 municipalties and important places including Rail station, Petroleum Oil depot in Bhairab river port of Kishoreganj to avoid any untoward incident during Eid-ul-Azha.
SP has given strict instructions to the 13 Police Station OCs ,Camp In-charge and other Police officials to stop extortion of sacrificial animals for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
SP Mashrukur told the New Nation that movement of the sacrificial animals on roads, water ways should be unimpeded.

Engineer, asst engineer suspended for low quality construction works

A Upazila engineer and assistant engineer were suspended for poor quality construction works in government projects.
They are Bauphal Upazila Engineer Md Sultan Hossain and Tongibari Upazila Assistant Engineer Md Saddam Hossain. Separate gazette notifications were issued on Thursday by the Local Government Division.
Sultan Hossain was suspended for low quality infrastructural work of Kismat Sreenagar Government Primary School in Bauphal and Saddam Hossain was accused of renovating a rural road below standard in Tongibari of Munshiganj.

Journalist, family members attacked in Lalmonirhat

A journalist and his family members were injured in an attack carried out by some local criminals in Lalmonirhat Sadar on Wednesday night.
Badiar Rahman (50) is Lalmonirhat district correspondent of local Bangla daily Dainik Manab Barta.
He was taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital but was later transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as he was in critical condition. Badiar and his family came under the attack in front of their house at Taluk Khitamara Banvasa intersection in the town around 8:00pm on Wednesday night, our local correspondent reports.

5 arrested in connection with rape of teenage girl in Patuakhali

Five suspected rapists were arrested in connection with a case filed for raping a nineteen-year-old girl at a residential hotel in Patuakhali’s Galachipa upazila on Wednesday night.
The arrestees are Shahidul (25), Swapan (40), Jiten (35), Khakan (45), and Rashid Gazi (32), our local correspondent reports quoting Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Galachipa Police Station.
The girl from Ghazalia area came to the upazila headquarter for treatment on Wednesday afternoon, the OC said quoting the case statement.

Ex-UP chairman killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’

Mostafa Kamal alias Mina Kamal, former chairman of Nowhati Union Parishad under Rupsha upazila of Khulna, was killed in a gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) early Thursday.
The incident took place in Bhekutimari area of the Khulna-Mongla highway.
RAB-6 commander Rawshonul Firoz said on secret information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area around 4:50am.

Ex- Labour minister Mannan’s wife dies

Noor Meher Mannan, wife of former Labour Minister, one of the organisers of the Liberation War and ex- president of Chattogram unit of AL late MA Mannan breathed her last at his own home on Thursday night due to old age complications. She was 73.
She left behind two daughters, six sons and a host of relatives and well wishers. Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Noor Meher Mannan.

‘Drug trader’ killed in exchange of fire

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported exchange of fire between two gangs in Sadar upazila of Satkhira district early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Liyakat Ali, a resident of Uttar Taluigachha village in the upazila. He was an accused in a number of drug cases filed with Satkhira Sadar Police Station. Police recovered a firearm, two bullets, 50 bottles of Phensedyl syrup and 200 Yaba tablets from the spot.

112 detected positive for Covid-19 in Ctg

A total of 112 people were detected positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours after testing 771 samples at five COVID-19 laboratories in Chattogram district.
Among the newly detected patients, 87 are from Chattogram city and 25 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.
The total number of infected patients now stands at 14214 in Chattogram district, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS on Thursday.
A patient has died in Chattogram due to corona infection day, he said. A total of 2168 coronavirus patients including Thursday’s 75 have recovered so far and the percentage of recovery rate stands at 15.25 percent in the district,” Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi added.
