Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Saturday said that the old Dhaka will be rebuilt to make it habitable with all facilities.
“We will rebuild the old Dhaka and will distribute flats among the land owners as per their ratio of land ownership following building code,” the minister said while addressing a discussion at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
The minister said, Dhaka is a very old city. The old part of the city has been built in such a way that it is not possible to rebuild overnight.
“We could not make the old Dhaka as a modern city so far. In these circumstances, we have taken a rebuilding plan to avoid any hazardous incident,” the minister said.
“If we find three buildings on five kathas of land in old Dhaka, we will rebuild as environment friendly and safe. We must distribute flats among the land owners by ratio,” the minister said.
SM Rezaul Karim said, “We are making safe and environment friendly residential areas in our new city projects like Purbachal, Jheelmeel and Uttara third phase project keeping 45 percent lands free from constructing buildings.”
Those residential areas will not pollute air. It will be healthy, safe and children friendly as there will be sufficient play grounds and open spaces, the minister added.
