Bangladeshi film Oggatonama (The Unnamed) has won the best film award at the recently concluded 57th Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Films from Asian countries including Malaysia, China, Japan, Macau, the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Nepal and Mongolia have participated in the festival
The directorial venture of Tauquir Ahmed has competed with a total of 54 entries from around 20 Asian countries. Faridur Reza Sagor, the managing director of Channel i and Impress Telefilm Ltd, was handed the award in a ceremony held at the capital of Cambodia while prominent entrepreneur Kona Reza and Bangladeshi filmmaker Golam Rabbany Biplob accompanied him.
Films from Asian countries including Malaysia, China, Japan, Macau, the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Nepal and Mongolia have participated in the festival.
Followed by news of the award, the director said, “It has been more than a year since the film released. As a filmmaker it is very satisfying that people are still watching it, and it is still being recognised in international film festivals. I believe that we have to work more like this which would leave their mark for a longer period in international film scene.”
Produced by Impress Telefilm Ltd, the fourth directorial feature by Tauqir Ahmed chronicles the life of expatriates in the Middle East, which casts Mosharraf Karim, Nipun, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Shatabdi Wadud and Fazlur Rahman Babu in the leads.
The Asia-Pacific Film Festival is an annual film event held since 1954 in an Asian country designated by the Board of Directors of the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific.
