BSS, Dhaka :
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said legal actions would be taken against government officials, if they deny giving information following an application by any citizen.
“Concealing information is a crime. When information is hidden, the doors of corruption and nepotism open up,” he said this on Sunday while speaking as chief guest at an exchange of opinion meeting on right to information in the city.
Research body Samonnaya organized the meeting titled ‘Right to Information Act and Marginal People-Friendly Social Safety Net Programmes’ at National Press Club with the assistance of Manusher Janya Foundation.
Presided over by Bangladesh Bank former Deputy Governor Khandaker Ibrahim Khaled, the meeting was also addressed by Chief Information Commissioner Mohammad Faruque, Secretary M Farhad Hossain and researcher Dr. Mahfuz Kabir.
Hasanul Haq Inu urged the media personnel to use the right to information act to know about government activities and project those to the people.
“If any official deny to give information, you can lodge complaints with the Information Commission,” he added. The minister suggested the media to allocate some time or space to inform the people about social safety net programmes of the government.
