Jahirul Haque Titu, Pirojpur :
Prince Edbor, 15, a student of class nine in Commerce Group at Mirukhali High School of Mathbaria upazila in Pirojpur goes to school by wheelchair everyday as he is unable to walk.
On 16 December 2008, his backbone broke as he fell down from a betel nut tree. From then, he lost control over his legs and was confined with wheelchair. Without it, he cannot move anywhere.
But he has not lost his heart. In spite his physical hindrance, he is going on his studies like other students at his age and he has done well in the Junior School Certificate (JSC) examination last year scoring great point average (GPA) five.
Prince is the son of Ramesh Chandro Edbor, a famer, and Suniti Rani, a housewife, of Uttar Mirukhali village in the upazila. His eldest sister Boishakhi works at a small company in Dhaka and another sister Shila studies in honours class in Pirojpur Suhrawardhy Government College.
As his father had to spend a large amount of money for his treatment, even had to sell most of his land, he passes his days amid hardship.
Now Prince is staying at his maternal uncle house that is situated around 1.5 km away from his school and goes to school everyday by wheelchair. But he is not frustrated for his worse physical condition. Rather he is hopeful of doing something better from his position.
In this case, he expects everyone’s help. He is also grateful to his classmates as they always help him.
“If my classmates find me coming to school by wheelchair, they accompany with me,” said Prince adding that if he falls in any problem on the way, even in the school, his classmates help him without any hesitation. “We feel proud of Prince to see his willing power,” said Tonmoy Halder, one of his classmates.
“We never take Prince as burden to us,” said Md Azadul Haque, another classmate of Prince adding that they help Prince at any situation.
Teachers of the school are also proud of Prince.
“Prince is a brilliant student of our school. So solvent people must stretch their hands to help such willing students like Prince,” said Istiak Ahmed Mamun and Bahadur Jomadder, two assistant teachers of the school.
“We support Prince as we can,” said Md Alamgir Hossain, headmaster of the school adding that Prince is an instance to them.
