Nur Hossain’s brother’s gun seized

Police have seized the shotgun belonging to the brother of Nur Hossain, the prime suspect in the abduction and murder of Narayanganj City Corporation Councilor Nazrul Islam and six others.
They raided Nur Uddin’s Batenpara house in Siddhirganj and seized the gun on Tuesday, a day after the district administration the revoked licences of 11 weapons belonging to Nur Hossain, said Siddhirganj Police Station OC Abdul Matin.
Hossain, an Awami League leader of Narayanganj, is absconding. Police also raided the house of his associate Jamaluddin in the same neighbourhood and seized a shotgun from there.
The two shotguns were among the 11 weapons whose licnences had been cancelled.
Hossain and his henchmen had obtained the permits over the past two years. Nazrul’s father-in-law Shahidul Islam listed them for the media on Saturday. According to the list, the weapons include seven shotguns, two pistols, a rifle and a revolver. Besides Hossain, the weapons belonged to his nephew, ward councilor Shahjalal Badal, his associate Md Shahjahan, Ali Mohammad and Sanaullah.
Ariful Haque Hassan, president of a local van owners’ association and known to be a close associate of Hossain’s, also has licences for two weapons. Police raided Nur Hossain’s house on Saturday but did not say if any arms had been found there.
They detained 12 people and seized a microbus during the raid. Illegal shops run by Hossain and his men on the bank of Shitalakhya river were removed.
