UNB, Dhaka :
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday said the number of loan defaulters both in the state-owned and the private banks is on the rise due to the abolition of the provision of loan rescheduling.
“But, the number of loan defaulters is higher in the state-owned banks, especially Sonali Bank,” he told reporters after a meeting with ADB Vice President Wencai Zhang at the Secretariat.
Asked whether the government will issue any directive to the banks to check the number of loan defaulters Muhith said, “There’s no need for additional directives…the government is careful about the loan default in the banks.”
Replying to a question about implementation of
the new pay scale for the government employees, the Finance Minister said the report on the ‘Pay and Services Commission-2013’ will be submitted to the ministry by December 15 this year.
“We’ll send the report to the cabinet after scrutinising it. The new pay scale will come into effect in July 2015,” he added.
About his meeting with the ADB Vice President, the Finance Minister said he urged the ADB for increasing annual assistance to Bangladesh from its existing less than one billion dollars to 1.5-2 billion dollars as the country is taking many gigantic projects which need huge money.
