Mushroom growth of private clinics and hospitals has posed a threat to public life in Khulna city and district.
Number of deaths are increasing alarmingly due to wrong treatment, it is alleged.
There are 112 private clinics, diagnostic centers and hospitals under Bangladesh Private Clinic & Diagnostic Owners Association (BPCDOA) throughout the city. Ten percent of these clinics have no registration.
Dr. Md. Sawkat Ali Loskar, General Secretary of Khulna unit of BPCDOA said, the clinics which have not yet got registration, they are made one year members and after getting the registration, they are made full fledged members.
It is alleged that some government doctors have been practicing in these private clinics and some of them are the owners of some clinics.
Doctors who are serving in government hospitals, they suggest the patients to go to the private clinics and diagnostic centers from where they allegedly get commission.
Most of the private clinics, diagnostic centers and pathology centers are being run by unskilled doctors. As a result, number of deaths are increasing alarmingly due to wrong treatment.
All the private clinics and hospitals take large amount from the patients. As such the poor patients are being perplexed after going to there.
Pyramid Surgical Clinic, located at city’s Daulatpur area, is only a private clinic where no surgical works are dome except circumcision and appendix operation. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, proprietor of the clinic, is the only physician here.
At least nine patients died from 2011 to 2016 at different private clinics and hospitals in the city.
In 2011, a patient died at Rupsha Nursing Home, in 2012, at Raisa clinic , cure home and phulbarigate Mamota clinic in the city and at Dumuria upazila area’s Nargis surgical clinic 4 patients died due to wrong treatment.
A female patient died at Pilot surgical at Amadibazar in Koyra upazila during her uterus tumor operation in 2011.
Bulu Das, a pregnant died at Chuknagar PVT. Hospital at Dumuria upazila in 2014. Besides, Sadia Soaida Tabia , a meritorious class four student of Khulna Coronation Girls school died at Nargis Memorial Private hospital in Khulna city due to wrong treatment.
