The government has made one of the two International Crimes Tribunals (ICTs) nonfunctional as the number of such cases has come down.
The Law Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday. As per the notification, one of the tribunals will remain inactive until further decision.
At the same time, the lone tribunal now in operation has been reconstituted. Member of the ICT-1 Justice Anwarul Haque has been made chairman of the three-member tribunal while its two other members are Justice Shahinur Islam and Justice Mohammad Sohrawardy of the High Court Division.
Four other members of the previous tribunals-Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Obaidul Hasan, Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Mojibar Rahman Miah-will return to the High Court.
The Law Ministry had sent a summary to the President on September 3 following the Prime Minister’s approval, and the ministry issued the gazette notification after the President signed the summary.
