After ghastly murder of two teenagers named Rakib and Rajan in Khulna and Sylhet respectively at a short intervate, an 11-year boy was tortured to death by a neighbour in Taltoli upazila of Barguna on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Rabiul Awal, a fourth grade student at Farazi Barhi Dakhil Madrasa in the upazila, said Bijoy Basak, Superintendent of Police (SP).
The body was recovered from Lutrar Canal of Amkhola village in the afternoon, the police official said.
The SP said, “Local people informed the victim’s family after finding the body and police recovered it in presence of his father Dulal Mridha on Tuesday evening.”
“We found injury marks on the victim’s right eye. Legal actions will be taken after proper investigation,” he said.
Police have arrested prime suspect Miraz, 25, a local fisherman, on Wednesday, the SP said.
Earlier, Rabiul’s father registered a case against their neighbour Miraz in connection with the murder with the Taltali Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.
“Miraz suspected that Awal stole fish from his nets in the canal and threatened to kill him a few days ago,” Dulal said.
He said that Miraz threatened to give Rabiul a lesson for “stealing fish” form his net on that occasion.
The miscreant also gouged his eyes out and clubbed him mercilessly, the victim’s father alleged.
Rabiul’s cousin Sahida said, “Rabiul reportedly went to remove fish from the net. Miraz hit him with a crowbar in the head, bashing one of his eyes and taking out half of the forehead.” Quoting locals, Babul Akhter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Taltali Police Station, claimed that Rabiul was beaten to death by Miraj over allegations of “stealing fish”.
He said that the accused was arrested as the victim’s father filed a case in this connection.
The body was sent to Barguna General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added. On July 8, in Sylhet, 13-year-old Samiul Alam Rajan was beaten to death with a metal rod on allegations of theft. His killers filmed the torture and released it on the social media, causing outrage.
Just as the furore was ebbing, 12-year-old Md Rakib was killed for allegedly going to work for his former employer’s competitors. The former employer pumped air into his abdomen through rectum. It caused using a compressor bloating and bleeding of internal organs leading to the death.
