A notorious man has been arrested for raping and killing at least four and violating several dozens of teenaged girls in his own residence or some of his cohorts’ houses in Tangail, Sylhet, Dhaka and some other districts in last several years.
Shafiq Mia, 25, was arrested from a glass factory in Tangail on Tuesday. Then he was taken to Sylhet for interrogation in connection with the killing of 16-year old girl Rumi Akther, whose unclaimed body was found in a house at Rampasa of Biswanath upazila on September 10, police said.
This most notorious youth generally introduce him to the targeted girls that he comes from a loyal family and now engage in lucrative jobs, said the police quoting locals and various other sources.
According to police, he shows smartness and worthy of money. He also tries to convince the teenagers that he suffers from mental sickness as he lacks affection from family. And he asked the adolescent girls to contact with him with a view to recovering his mental disorder.
Taking the advantage of weaknesses of girls, he tactfully proposes them ‘love affair’ as a pre-pan trap to take them to bedroom, they added.
This criminal also continued fake ‘love affair’ with several girls at a time by using different mobile SIMs. If someone gave him pressure to marriage her then he allured the girl for secret marriage. As per plan, he took the girl at his bedroom or cohorts’ residences and raped her one after another, according to them. If the victim gave threat to disclose the matter and taking of legal action then he murder the girl with the help of cohorts, they said.
Police suspect that several dozens of girls became victims of his ‘rape and killing trap’ before the arrest of this notorious youth from Tangail.
Md Moniruzzaman, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sylhet, told reporters on Wednesday, “Shafiq confessed to the police that he killed at least four beautiful girls and raped several dozens of teenagers by alluring them love affair and marriage assurance.” “He was hungry for beautiful girls who had been victimized of love trap,” the police official said.
According to mobile call record, a team of police arrested Shafiq from a glass factory in Tangail on Tuesday and then he was been taken to Sylhet for interrogation over the killing of 16-year old Rumi Ahter. The unclaimed body of Rumi was found in a house at Rampasha in Biswnath upazila of Sylhet on September 10.
The SP also said that police have arrested 14 people, including Shafiq, in connection with Rumi murder. Shafiq was a fugitive accused in a gang-rape case with Biswnath Police Station, he said. On September 9, Shafiq was introduced with Rumi, daughter Ataur Rahman, at Kumudini Hospital in Tangail. Shafiq took Rumi in Sylhet by acting ‘love affairs’ and killed her after rape there, according to the SP.
One sister-in law of Shafiq witnessed the murder and sensing danger he fled the area to avert arrest. Shafiq also got married with four girls, he added.
Shafiq might have gang rape and murder syndicates in the city and several other districts, the police official said.
