Nor’wester , hail storm damage crops in Kurigram

Nor’wester and hail storm that swept over the Kurigram district have damaged standing crops, houses and uprooting thousands of trees on Saturday night.
Local sources said, the nor’wester swept over all the nine upazilas in the district.
Electricity supply remained suspended. Chairman of Bhogdanga union council Saidur Rahman told that hail storm damaged standing Paddy fields and tin shed houses. Several road side trees were uprooted.Sub-Assistant Agriculture officer of Kurigram Sadar Upazila Abdul Mazid told this correspondent that heavy wind uprooted huge amount of both public and government road side trees were uprooted.
Although the paddy fields were pest attacked here earlier which was controlled partially applying pesticides but no hail storm was seen here, he added.The farmer Abdul Jalil 55 of village Dhani Gagla under Santoshpur union of Nageswari upazila in the district told the New Nation that he planted 12 bighas of land but hail storm damaged fifty percent of his paddy fields.Member of Kurigram Zila Parishad Sheuly Begum told many tin shed houses of Ulipur upazila were bored by hail storm and standing crops were also damaged.
A good number of road side trees were uprooted suspending traffic movement on Kurigram-Rangpur highway, said freedom fighter Abdul Haque of Kathalbari union under sadar upazila.Paddy field, houses were damaged and thousands of trees were uprooted in Bhurungamari,Phulbari, Rajarhat, Chilmari, Roumari and Rajivpur upazila, local public representatives said.
