Nor’wester damages 100 houses in Bagerhat

About 100 kancha and semi pucca houses, some educational institutions were damaged and a good number of trees were uprooted when a cyclonic storm accompanied with rains swept over Bagerhat Sadar and some other Upazilas in district in the early hours of Saturday, according to reports received here.
The affected villages in Bagerhat Sadar Upazilar are Karapar, Uttarpar, Dakkhin Para, Purbo Para, Paschim Para, Mirjapur, Jugihati and P C Dema where at least 50 Kuitcha and semi pucca houses were damaged and a number of big trees were uprooted by the storm. 5 poultry sheds of a poultry farm belonging to one Nibas Biswas of village Karapar were damaged when a big tree was uprooted and fell on the poultry sheds. As a result, a good number of poultries died. Nibas Biswas told, not only that but also his dwelling house and kitchen and dwelling houses of his neighbours Tapas and Bikas were completely damaged by the storm. A primary school and a High School of the village were partially damaged. Abdulla-hil-Bakik, a retired school teacher of the same village disclosed, 4 big (road side) Rain trees of Dasani-Dema Road were uprooted and consequently, the road was badly damaged. Mahfuzur Rahman Khokon, UP member of Ward No. 9 of Karapara union told, just after the storm I came out of my house and found some kutcha and semi pucca houses, electricity poles and some tube-wells were damaged. He added, affected people should given financial support from the government.
About 50 kutcha and semi pucca houses were damaged by the storm in Kachua, Morrelganj and Sharankhola Upazilas of the district.
Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat told, list of storm affected people will be prepared through UNOs (Upazila Nirbahi Officers) in order to give them (affected persons) financial support..
