North Zone made a good start in the 4th Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) beating South Zone by 74 runs on the 4th and final day of the first round of the first class domestic cricket at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Friday.
North Zone, having 392 runs in the first innings, resumed the 2nd innings with overnight total of 156 for 4 in 56 overs and were all out for 182 runs in 68.2 overs.
Skipper Naeem Islam, who was in batting on 21, added just one run to score 22 runs off 30 balls hitting two fours and one six, another night watch batsman Dhiman Ghosh (6) scored 11 runs off 21 balls including two fours while Sanjamul Islam made 22-ball 11 runs with a boundary for the North Zone.
Veteran spinner Abdur Razzak made the major damage to the North Zone innings grabbing seven wickets for 58 runs in his 26.2 overs spell with two maidens while Shohag Gazi, Mehedi Hasan and Enamul Haque Jr took one wicket each.
Chasing a target of 231 runs, South Zone (first innings 344) opened the 2nd innings and were dismissed cheaply for 156 runs in 47.5 overs against superb bowling by Taijul Islam
South Zone made a good start scoring 77 runs for 2 in 16.2 overs, but middle and lower order collapse caused their defeat.
Opener Shahriar Nafees scored 74 runs off 125 balls featuring seven fours and one six, another opener Mehedi Hasan scored 36-ball 26 runs with four fours, Shohag Gazi added 22 and Fazle Mahmud 12 runs.
National coloured bowler Taijul Islam claimed five wickets for 38 runs in his 14.5 overs spell and was adjudged the man of the match. National all rounder Nasir Hossain grabbed three wickets for 14 runs while Shubashis Roy took two for 37 runs.

The day’s other league match between Central Zone and East Zone ended in draw at the
Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra on the 4th and final day (Friday).
Central Zone, having 394 runs in the first innings, resumed the 2nd innings on Friday morning with overnight 64 for 3 and were all out for 168 runs in 63.2 overs.
Tanveer Haider, the first innings century maker, contributed the innings highest 46 runs off 134 balls with four fours and a six and was adjudged man of the match, night-watch batsman Shamsur Rahman (15) scored 72-ball 30 runs with three fours and another night batsman Saikat Ali (8) made 16 runs.
Abu Jayed captured four wickets for 43 runs, Abul Hasan grabbed three for 54 while Nazmul Islam took two for 25 runs.
Chasing a target of 208 runs, East Zone, having 355 runs in the first innings, opened the 2nd innings and scored 183 runs for 5 in 41 overs at the end of the 4th and final day to settle for draw.
Opener Tasamul Haque hit the innings highest not out 91 runs off 110 balls featuring six fours and one six, Alok Kapali scored 53-ball 39 runs with four fours while Kamrul Islam Rabbi made an uneaten 19 off 38 balls hitting one six.
Saikat Ali picked up three wickets for 34 runs while Sharifullah and Mosharaf Hossain took one wicket each.
