The Dhaka University has decided not to allow students to sit twice for the admission test from the 2015-16 academic session.
The university administration took the decision at a meeting of its Central Admission Committee on Tuesday with DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Arefin Siddique in the chair.
DU Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman confirmed The New Nation about the decision. Professor Arefin Siddique said, there will be lesser number of admission seekers after this decision and there will be no need of holding admission test outside own campus.
DU Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman said: “According to the committee decision, those, who have already taken part in this year’s admission test, will not be eligible for admission test in 2015.
He said the university authority also relaxed the conditions of eligibility for enrollment into the English department.
The DU registrar said, “Almost half of the students, who are once admitted into the honours courses, again sit for the admission test next year reducing chance of the fresh admission seekers.
He further said, “These second-time candidates are they who either failed in their first attempt or were admitted into a department they did not prefer.
As a result, every year about 400 seats remain vacant every session in the university.”
Besides, many fresh admission seekers claimed that the second-time candidates got better scores in the test because of their experience, he added.
In a bid to stop such practice among students, the DU authority decided not to allow students to sit twice in the admission test from the 2015-16 academic session, the DU Registrar said.
According to the Dhaka University central admission office, in the 2013-14 session 89,800 were 2nd time applicants and 102412 were fresh applicants.
