Teachers and employees of more than 7,000 non-MPO educational institutions on Monday demanded inclusion under the government’s Monthly Pay Order (MPO). The demand came at a rally under the banner of Non-MPO Educational Institutions’ Teachers and Employees Federation at Jatiya Press Club. Among others president of the federation Principal Md Esharat Ali, general secretary Md Shafiqul Islam, and senior vice-president Md Abul Kalam Azad spoke on the occasion.
President of the federation Principal Md Esharat Ali said education is the backbone of the nation. But more than 1.2 million teachers and employees are living miserable lives as they don’t get any salary and other benefits from the government.
General Secretary Md Shafiqul Islam said there are more than 7,000 educational institutions including school, college, madrasa and technical institutions still waiting to be listed as MPO institutions, while education minister assured at least three institutions will be brought under this facility. Demanding immediate enlistment of every non-MPO institution under MPO, speakers also demanded the prime minister’s interference into the matter to save millions of teachers.
