No vaccination without reg: DGHS

The Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday said that without registration, no one would be allowed to receive Covid-19 vaccine in the country.
DGHS Director General Dr Abul Bashar Momahammad Khurshid Alam said it while addressing the media after attending a meeting with directors of different hospitals on the preparedness for the vaccination campaign, in the capital. Dr. Alam said he himself along with the Health Minister and DGHS officials will be inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccines on the first day of the countrywide inoculation campaign begins on February 7.
The DGHS chief informed that the government is also carrying out a mass media campaign, including making announcements using loudspeakers in villages and engaging public representatives, to encourage the common people for the inoculation.
People who are eligible and interested to be vaccinated in the first phase must complete registration by February 5, said Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Kaikaus.
On January 27-28, a total of 567 people, mostly healthcare workers from five government hospitals in the capital, were inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that the people’s representatives and government officials have been urged to join the vaccination campaign.
The Minister also said that the leaders of the Bangladesh Medical Association and Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad will take jabs on February 7.
Earlier on Monday, the DGHS officials said about 400,000 vaccine shots had so far been allocated for Dhaka district. These are from the two million shots that Bangladesh received as a gift from the Indian government.
Dr Shamsul Haque Mridha, Member-Secretary of the national vaccination committee at the DGHS said, “We have completed vaccine delivery to all 64 districts.”
Vaccine registration website www.surokkha.gov.bd is open to the public, since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the vaccination campaign on January 27.
Also, the Surokkha app, developed to register for receiving the Covid-19 vaccine in Bangladesh, will be made available on Google Play by February 4 to be used through mobile phones.
