No US visa lottery for BD men

UNB, Dhaka :
The US Embassy in Dhaka on Monday said it did not send any letter to any individual over ‘Diversity Visa Programme’ as Bangladesh is no longer eligible for it.
“The Embassy has learned that Bangladeshi citizens have received emails claiming they won the US visa lottery or invitations to enroll in the lottery. These emails are fraudulent and are not sent by the US Embassy,” said a media statement issued by the US Embassy.
It requested all to note that the US government does not communicate via email or telephone that an enrollee has won the visa lottery, nor advertise to enroll in the lottery.
The Diversity Visa (DV) Programme, also known as the Visa Lottery, ended for Bangladesh citizens in September 2012.
US law states that no DVs shall be provided for countries from which there were more than a total of 50,000 immigrants during the previous five years.
Bangladesh has sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the US over the past five years, and as a result, is no longer eligible for the Diversity Visa Programme.
As this programme no longer exists for the citizens of Bangladesh, Bangladeshis should not attempt to enroll in any kind of Diversity Visa lottery programme.
