Law enforcers have yet to trace RUET student and Chhatra League leader Saifuzzaman Sohag, who is said to have been taken away from his house in Rajshahi nine days ago.
Police claim they had made headway in the investigations related to the case filed by Sohag’s father Akkas Uz Zaman.
The family said the fourth-year mechanical engineering student had been picked up from his home in the city’s Rajparha area in the early hours of Dec 10 by people claiming to be from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
RAB, however, denied any raid to nab Sohag. Police, too, said they had no knowledge of his detention.
According to the family, the two phone numbers from where calls were made demanding ransom following the ‘abduction’ are now out of service.
Sohag is the information and research secretary of the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) unit of Chhatra League, the student front of the ruling Awami League.
Zaman registered a general diary with the Rajparha Police Station on Dec 10 and later filed an abduction case on Dec 13.
He told bdnews24.com on Friday, “Sohagh was picked up around 10 days ago. We do not yet know his whereabouts and state.”
