Kishoreganj, Correspondent :
At least 100 workers of Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital have been working for the last one year, but they have not received their salaries and allowances as yet. In the circumstances, they are living a miserable life with their families.
The employer contractor Rafiq said, ‘I am trying my best to give their salary and allowances,
There is a delay in paying the salary due to non-payment of money. As a result, there has been uncertainty about the
salaries of outsourcing workers. It is learned that in the financial year 2018-19, a contracting firm M/s. Raisa Medical Center got the job of hiring outsourcing workers through tender. They employed 84 people as hospital Ward boys, nurses, cooks, security and cleaning staff.
But the company has not paid them salaries even though they have been working regularly for the last one year.
Several workers, who did not want to be named for fear of losing their jobs, said they were borrowing from the shop, as they had not been paid for the last one year.
But now the shopkeeper does not want to sell on credit. The school fee of the boys and girls are not yet paid. They can’t pay the rent. In this situation, the family has to stay without eating. They are giving us 10 thousand taka on the occasion of Eid. Can our family live on this?
Rafiqul Haque Titu, Managing Director of the contracting company, said that outsourcing workers are allocated in the budget of medical colleges. So there should be no problem in paying their salaries. But the allocation for the General Hospital has to be brought from the Ministry of Health and the Department of Health.
“What is done over the last four years I don’t need right now,” he added. I have submitted my resignation letter to the hospital authorities three times. But they did not accept it.
Dr. Hibrul Bari, Deputy Director of Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital told The New Nation, “After joining, I came to know that the salaries of outsourcing workers are not being paid.” I sent a demand letter to pay their salary.
