There has been no report of killing any Bangladeshi national by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on the borders since January this year, claimed BSF Director General (DG) KK Sharma on Thursday.
“We are very careful about violation of human rights,” the BSF DG said in a briefing on the fourth day of the BSF and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General level meeting yesterday.
The five-day talks began on April 23 in the Pilkhana Headquarters of BGB in Dhaka.
Killing, abduction and detention of innocent Bangladeshi citizens on the border will dominate the meeting.
Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), however, claimed that three Bangladeshis were tortured to death, seven injured and three others abducted from January to March this year.
Last year’s statistics of the rights organisation also recorded 24 people were killed, 35 wounded and 40 abducted.
BSF Director General KK Sharma is leading a 10-member Indian delegation, while BGB Director General Major Gen Md Shafeenul Islam leads15-member Bangladesh team.
Other members include representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, foreign ministry, Home Ministry, Department of Narcotics Control, Joint River Commission and Survey of Bangladesh
Both sides agreed to take effective steps to prevent human trafficking and illegal crossing, to enhance sharing of information regarding organised criminal activities and increased surveillance in areas vulnerable to crimes on the border, according to the press release.
