DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said there has been no conflict or chaos in any mandap in the capital so far.
Adequate security measures have been taken by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to meet emergencies.
The members of the Hindu community are peacefully visiting the puja mandaps. There is no sign of any chaos or mishap anywhere.
The DMP commissioner said this after visiting the Dhakeshwari temple in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
To celebrate Durga Puja, Hindus all across the country are gathering at the mandaps.
The DMP commissioner assured them of total cooperation. “We think there is no sign of any untoward incident. The Hindus are joyfully visiting the puja mandaps,” he said.
“Due to some limitations of the DMP, it has not been possible to provide a standing force for the movement of the devotees in the puja mandaps this time; but all those who have gone to the mandaps have expressed satisfaction about the security measures of the police.”
He also said that due to the Covid-19 situation, patrol police are being deployed wherever there is a large crowd in the capital.
“We expect everyone to follow the health safety rules. Please celebrate the ceremony and maintain a safe distance.”
Responding to a question from reporters, the DMP commissioner said that the main population has nothing to do with those who are spreading propaganda on social media.
“Everyone knows that some people may spread various propagandas. If we believe them, we will not be able to walk by the streets of Dhaka,” he said.
