Hours after a group of his party leaders announced a committee excluding him, LDP president Oli Ahmed on Monday said no-one has any legal scope to have the authority of the party since it is registered in his name.
“I applied for the registration of LDP in my name, and it’s the number one registered political party. So, no-one has the legal right to take away the party. If anyone wants to be identified in my name excluding his father’s one, I’ve no objection to it,” he said. Speaking at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Clun under the banner of Jatiya Mukti Mancha, Oli further said, “I would like to firmly say that the LDP’s registration is in my name…and this the main LDP. “
Earlier in the day, LDP ex-Joint Secretary General Shahdat Hossain Selim at a press conference announced a seven-member coordination committee of the party dropping its President Oli Ahmad.
Ex-Whip of Parliament and LDP Presidium Member Abdul Karim Abbasi has been made President of the new committee while Selim its Member Secretary.
Asked whether he is going to expel those who announced a new committee of the party, Oli said some of them have already resigned from the party.
“I founded the party and I’ve been its president for the 12 years. They (Abbasi and Selim were the members of my party and they’re like my brothers and sons. It’s not decent to speak against them,” he added.
On October 9 last, Oli Ahmed formed a 203-member new committee of LDP dropping Abbasi and Selim.
Aabbsi was the presidium member while Selim joint secretary general in the party’s previous committee.
On October 26, 2006, Oli left BNP and formed LDP together with then Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
However, B Chowdhury quit LDP within a year and revived his party BDB following a conflict with Oli.
