Staff Reporter :
General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader on Sunday said, they will have no objection if the Election Commission defers the election date responding to demands from different political parties.
The AL leader’s comment came just before Jatiya Oikya Front had announced that it would participate in the election, but demanded that it be deferred by a month.
“It is fully a matter of the Election Commission. We have already accepted their decision and therefore will not object if they delay the schedule. But if they do change the date, the reason for it should be logical,” Quader said. He said the commission should take into cognizance the opinion of other political parties.
‘The CEC has announced the election date and it is rational.
Earlier on November 8, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced that the 11th general election will be held in the country on December 23.
The Election Commission, however, has a constitutional binding to hold the election by January 28 of 2019.
