Staff Reporter :

Dhaka-based Road Transport Owner Association has decided to stop the contractual bus driving on roads to mean that an operator would not be asked to deposit a fixed sum of money everyday to run the vehicle on contractual basis.
General Secretary of the organization Khandaker Enayet Ullah has made the disclosure at a press conference at Road Transport Owner Association central office in BRTC building in the city yesterday. He also announced full support to the proposed road transport act 2018.
He said, no bus will run on contract basis from today This system steams fierce competition on road and increases accidents. We will not let
it happen any more. We will recommend to cancel the license of the company that does not obey the decision. And his organization will also take arrangement to implement the decision.
He said, the transport owners and workers fully support the new transport act. The new transport act 2018 law is very timely and better acceptable over the law of 1983. We support it.
However, the amount of fines in this law is much higher. We will offer suggestions for some amendments. Whether or not the government accept the amendments, his organization will support the new law, he said.
Enayetullah said, before this law the bus companies did not pay compensation. But there is no scope to avoid paying compensate under the new law.
He further said that from today the bus owner association functionaries
will check each bus terminal in the city to see if a bus goes without fitness certification or driver’s license. If there is shortage of documents, it will not be allowed to operate. This campaign will continue.
We give the owners time till September 30, they should fix everything by this time.
