Jhenaidah Children's Hospital facing closure: No medicine, adequate physicians, staff in 9 years

Jhenaidah Children’s Hospital, the only treatment institute for the children of Jhenaidah has been facing manifold problems as the adequate physicians and other staffs were posted here after nine years if establishment the same in Jhenaidah.
As a result the 25 bed hospital comes in no effect for the children here. Further, all of the fofur buildings of the hospital have been ruining for want of maintenance works for a long period.
To safe the hospital building and ensure treatment for the children, hundreds of people on Wednesday formed a human chain in Jhenaidah town at District Post Office inter section. The hospital has turned to a said heaven for the drug edicts and anti-social activists as there are even no electricity connections to the hospital. Locals said, the construction of the four-building Jhenaidah Children’s hospital was completed at a cost of Taka 6.34 crore in 2006 near the central bus terminal in the town.
At the evening hours of the then government the hospital was anyhow inaugurated by the Prime Minister Khaled Zia on SEptember 6 in the same year.
As there was no administrative approval for recruiting any manpower for the hospital, it was remained closed till 2010. On January 2011 the outdoor section (OPD) was stared with three senior assistant community Medical officer (SACMO) and two staffs. Primarily some drugs were supplied to the hospital that continued for a few months. But the supply of the medicine for the hospital was at last stopped for last two years.
Locals said, the staff of the hospital has been passing their time with gossip.
The children who have been rushing in the hospital are going back without treatment for want of drugs.
Maziburv Rahman, a guardian of a child patient Masuma Khatun of Hatgpalpur in Jhenaidah Sadar when contacted at the hospital premises said, he was returning home as there was no graduate physician and drug in the hospital.
