No headmaster in 881 govt primary schools in Cumilla

 A total of 881 Government Primary Schools in 16 upazilas are running without any headmaster, hampering the academic and administrative activities of the schools.
The posts of headmaster of 881 primary schools have been lying vacant since retirement of some teachers and complexities in the recruitment process.
Sources at the District Primary Education office, said there are some 2,102 primary schools and among these, posts of headmasters in 881 schools while posts of assistant teachers in 837 schools remained vacant.
According to the source, there are 24 vacant posts of headmasters and 67 assistant teachers in Adarsha Sadar upazila, 26 headmasters and 30 assistant teachers in Laksham upazila, 80 headmaster and 15 assistant teacher in Debidwar upazila, 74 headmasters and 68 assistant teachers in Muradnagar upazila, 72 headmaster and 133 assistant teacher in Daudkandi upazila, 73 headmasters and 18 assistant teachers in Barura upazila, 21 headmasters and six assistant teachers in Burichong upazila, 39 headmasters and 18 assistant teachers in Chandina upazila, 32 headmaster and 43 assistant teacher in Homna upazila, 74 headmasters and 140 assistant teachers in Nangolkot upazila, 33 headmasters and 43 assistant teachers in Meghna upazila, 53 headmasters and 92 assistant teachers in Manoharganj upazila, 92 headmasters and 27 assistant teachers in Titash upazila.
The school authorities concerned are running their academic activities with the senior assistant teachers, making them overburdened. They could not take their regular classes properly due to extra pressure.
Sources said 35 percent posts of headmaster in government primary schools are filled up through recruitment while the rest 65 are filled up through promotion.
The posts of headmaster have been lying vacant for a long period due to complexities in the recruitment process. In some cases, the posts of headmasters are lying vacant for 7/8 years.
Contacted, District Assistant Education Officer, Kazi Mafiz Uddin, said the work for filling up the vacant posts of headmasters from the assistant teachers are underway at the Directorate of Primary Education and necessary steps will be taken after getting the list from the DPE.
